Abstract

The question of the impact of digitization on the original, its color separations, color proofs
and other operations of reproducing process on color conversion related to features of establishing
and reproducing equipment technological capabilities, characteristics of the materials used, the
characteristics of the original is considered. The quality indicators of reproduction are considered,
that allows to determine the degree of its compliance to original, list of measuring devices that are
being used in printing to quantify parameters of the originals, intermediate images and replicable
imprints; the most important parameters of scanners are given.
Because of the difference of color coverages of various devices, it’s fundamentally
impossible to reproduce some colors. In this case, these colors should be replaced by those that can
be reproduced on this device and cause the observer’s similar color sensations.
In the theory of color reproduction, the image which cannot be reproduced, is called
physiologically exact copy (unlike colorimetrically exact copies, which performing by the currently
available technological means is extremely difficult and economically disadvantageous).
