Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics of oxidation of carbon to be used
in the composition of iron powder as a deoxidizer in the electrode surfaces of the form of ilmenite.
The rate of oxidation of graphite in the coating in the form of ilmenite two times lower than
carbon in Fe-C alloy, which leads to the need to reduce its content in the electrode is critical. Therefore,
it is impossible to make full use of graphite as a deoxidizer in welding electrodes of this type.
The oxidation of carbon Fe-C alloy, has a number of distinctive features. It dissolves upon
melting the powder in its base metal and reacts to the drops decarburization step.
When using iron powder in an amount of not exceeding critical for this slag system,
carburizing weld metal is not present, it can be used as a deoxidizer.
